OMOTE URA Product Design was founded in 2022 by designer Michael Grandt and is based in Düsseldorf.
The studio puts its focus on lighting, interior items and furniture, working with a wide range of materials and manufacturing techniques.
Aim is to create designs that are reduced to what is really essential, and still convey a sense of human empathy, imagination and thoughtfulness.
Michael has spent a number of years living and working in Japan, which still influences his approach to aesthetics and design.
The Japanese name of the studio OMOTE URA losely translates as front and back.
It emphasizes the idea, that beyond what is obvious on first sight, design also needs to think through all the small details and hidden facets that might not attract attention initially, but will be rather discovered and appreciated during usage and over a longer time of ownership.
