TOMO
ply wood stool concept

design: Michael Grandt

seating height: 44 cm

TOMO is constructed from three curved plywood elements, assembled and supported by a tubular steel frame. This combination creates a dialogue between the soft, organic contours of the wood and the precise, technical lines of the steel. Depending on the viewing angle, the metal structure visually recedes, allowing the wooden surfaces to take prominence.

This interplay reflects a design philosophy where technical components are subtly integrated, reminiscent of concealed structures in aviation, machinery, or modern architecture.

This exemplifies a design approach, achieving harmony between otherwise contrasting elements.

In TOMO, this is evident in the balance between the organic and the technical, the visible and the hidden, creating a piece that is both functional and contemplative.

Currently, the stool is a prototype, and the designer is seeking a furniture brand for further development and market launch.
